What it does
A Western tuner names notes, C, D, E. The swara tuner names swaras: Sa, komal Re, Ga, tivra Ma, counted from your Sa, whatever key your flute is in. As you play it shows the swara you are on, how far from true it is in cents, and a line of what you have played, so you see whether a long Ga wavers, or whether your komal Dha sits where your teacher's does.
It hears a voice as well as a flute, a man's low Sa included, so singers can use it too.
With a raag
Choose a raag, and the tuner shows only its swaras, and marks any swara you play that is not among them: a tivra Ma slipping into Bilawal, a shuddh Ni in Bageshree. Its swaras come from the raag's aaroh and avaroh, as on each raag's page.
Free on iPhone and Android. And while you practise a riyaz, Meend follows your swaras on its notation in the same way, each one lit as you play it.
